Since March 2020, Chavez, along with schools across the country, has been faced with unprecedented challenges.
In the Spring of 2020, when all instruction went online, we utilized Google Classrooms for synchronous and asynchronous learning. While we engaged more than 99% of our school community over the Spring, we knew we needed to ensure we were meeting all scholars where they were and provide a more cohesive learning environment for our scholars.
All Chavez scholars have a Chromebook to use at home to support their learning and any who need internet access have been issued hot spots.
In the Fall of 2020, we adopted Schoology as our Learning Management System and adopted a synchronous schedule for all scholars Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm with Wednesday as an asynchronous day for scholars and a Professional Development day for staff.
We provide daily and weekly opportunities for our scholars to connect with each other through daily Advisory, Mid-Day Meet-Ups during lunch and weekly Grade Level Town Halls.
Our daily in-seat attendance rate is 91.6% which is more than 4% above the charter sector average in DC.
