Annual Public Policy Symposium
The 7th Annual Public Policy Symposium happened this past June and we celebrated 20 years of our scholars creating a just, free and equal world! Four seniors from our Capitol Hill and Parkside campuses presented their ideas for solving pressing public policy problems to a roomful of Chavez board members, fellowship organization hosts, community leaders, staff and Chavez alumnae. Every year, all Chavez senior scholars present and defend thesis findings on some of our nation’s most pressing public policy issues, such as mental illness, immigration, and gun violence. This process is the culminating event of their high school experience and a few students are chosen to present their thesis at the Public Policy Symposium.
The Chavez Schools Public Policy Symposium is a dynamic event that illustrates the powerful impact of our school’s mission, and provides a highly inspirational and educational experience for both the attendees and the scholars chosen to participate. Local and national policy makers, civic leaders, and business leaders attend and witness firsthand how scholars apply critical thinking skills to complex public policy issues.
