Ms. Fisher received her B.A. in American Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park and her masters in Education Policy and Management from Harvard University. Before becoming Principal at Chavez Schools, Ms. Fisher completed an Educational Leadership Fellowship at Memphis Grizzlies Prep and worked as an instructional coach and teacher in turnaround schools in both Prince George's County and DC Public Schools.  She is known for creating joyful and innovative learning environments for the school communities she has served. Data driven decision-making is at the core of her leadership and she has turned around low performing and failing programs.

This is Mr Russo's second year as the Assistant Principal at Chavez Schools’ Parkside Middle School.  He has spent the majority of his time in education as a Special Education, Reading/English Language Arts teacher and coach in Prince George's County.  Mr. Russo participated as a member of the ASCD’s Whole Child Network of Schools, and has presented at conferences both locally and nationally. He served as a member of the 2014-2016 Teacher Advisory Council for the Bill and Melinda Gates Education Foundation, and more recently was accepted into ASCD's Emerging Leaders Class of 2016.  Mr. Russo is passionate about ensuring that all students feel healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged, and continually looks for ways to provide students and staff opportunities to meet those needs.  When not at school, he enjoys cooking, participating in obstacle races, and spending time with his wife and three children.




Program Manager, Student Support and Services - Jerrod Hines

Mr. Hines is a graduate of Bowie State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. Upon completion of his BS, he began a Master's degree in Education at Howard University & Bowie State University. Mr. Hines has been in the field of Education for 10 years and enjoys interacting and building relationships with children and families. Mr. Hines joined the Chavez Team in 2012 as a Science Educator and has involved himself in various activities such as Head Basketball Coach for the Girls Basketball & Volleyball teams. In his spare time, Mr. Hines enjoys traveling, music, and spending time with his family & friends. Mr. Hines firmly believes that ALL children are born ready and eager to learn and that all children deserve the chance to succeed to their fullest potential.

Jill E. Howlett is a native New Yorker and graduate of Julia Richman High School. She attended The City College of New York, where she received a Bachelor of Arts. After moving to the Maryland area and beginning her career as an educator, Jill obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Special Education from Trinity University located in Washington DC.

Jill began her career in education in 2000, with Prince George’s County Public Schools. During her tenure she has held a number of positions to include: Special Education Teacher, ESY Teacher, Extended Learning Opportunity Teacher, Crisis Intervention Resource Teacher, Special Education Department Chair, and a member of various leadership teams.

Jill has a wealth of experience and knowledge in special education. She is committed to children and the community. Supporting students and providing them with the tools necessary to become change agents in society has always been a driving force for her. At Chavez Schools Jill will encourage students to achieve with excellence.

Behavior Intervention Specialist - Tonya Allen

As a Washington DC native, Ms. Allen is excited to work in a school setting to provide her commitment to youth success. She has fifteen years of clinical mental health and crisis intervention experience. Before coming to Chavez Ms. Allen worked at a Mental Health Agency implementing goals and interventions to improve behavior skills and student and parent engagement.

She received a Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology, minor in Childhood Development from University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Bowie State University. Tonya passion is seeing the developmental growth in inner city youth and finding the best techniques to improve.
