The Chavez Schools community is mourning the passing of Damari Herald, 15, a 9th grade scholar at Chavez Capitol Hill High School. According to Maryland State Police, Damari and four young relatives died early Saturday morning, February 2nd, in a traffic accident on U.S. 301 in Prince George’s County.
We will remember Damari for his outgoing personality and the infectious smile he brought to the Capitol Hill campus since his arrival earlier this school year. With an inquisitive mind, he was always ready to attack any challenge put in his way. Damari thoughtfully looked out for his peers and friends, and he touched many lives.
Chavez Schools extends our community's condolences to Damari’s surviving family members, who are grieving the loss of five children, as well as to Damari’s friends.
School social workers will be available beginning Monday morning to support scholars and staff at the Capitol Hill campus.
