Chavez Makes History in Debate Tournament
When the Cesar Chavez debate teams show up for tournaments, they make more than statements; they win. And that is exactly what happened at the recent DC Urban Debate League Tournament held at Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School, Saturday, January 30th.
Chavez brought home the first place trophy for the most wins. Also, for the 1st time in its history, Chavez had more teams at the DC Urban Debate League tournament than many schools twice its size. Jade Vaughn, a senior at the Chavez Capitol Hill campus, had the most outstanding individual performance out of 114 debaters. She won first place for the highest speaker points. She becomes the first Chavez debater to receive this honor.
Chavez will look to continue its dominance at the next two competitions on March 6th and April 24th.
