Dear Parents/Guardians:
We have had a successful beginning to the new school year. Students were actively engaged in rigorous class work from day one. It is important that students attend school every day and are on time if they are to be successful. We have a strict attendance policy because we have seen that students who have few absences and tardies tend to be on the honor roll more than other students. Please support us in this effort.
Last week we have our Activities Fair. Many students signed up for at least one of the many clubs and sports we have offered. Please encourage your child to be involved in an after school activity. Many studies report that students who participate in such organized activities become engaged in the school and do better in their grades.
You are cordially invited to attend Cesar Chavez Public Charter High School for Public Policy’s Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 26, from 6:30p.m.-8:30p.m. It is very important that you attend to demonstrate to your child that the faculty, staff and parents/guardians are all here to support your child’s education.
When you arrive you will be given your child’s schedule. This schedule is the same as your child’s daily schedule-except that each of these Back-to-School classes will last only about eight minutes. We will ring the bell for the first class at 7:00p.m., so please try to be on time so that you can visit each of your child’s classes. From 6:30p.m.-7:00p.m. and from 8:00p.m.-8:30p.m. you will be able to visit with our support staff including College Counseling, mental Health, Discipline/Attendance, Special Ed, Tutoring program, etc.
Teachers will explain briefly the content of each course and will explain to you their requirements and expectations of students. You are encouraged to ask questions at the end of each teacher’s talk, if time permits. To have an individual meeting with a teacher, please arrange a private meeting for a different time and date.
Sincerely,
Garrett Phelan, Principal
